WHEN her younger sister wanted to go jogging in a nearby park, Miss Chee Gaik Yap, 25, was worried for her safety.
So she decided to go along. Ironically, Miss Chee ended up abducted, raped and brutally murdered, reported The New Straits Times.
Her semi-nude body was found dumped at a roadside near a country club by a passing motorist. It was just 1.5km from her house at Taman Ria Jaya in Sungai Petani.
Bloodstains were found some 2km from where her body was found. The police believe she was raped and killed elsewhere before being dumped, reported Guang Ming Daily.
Miss Chee and her sister Gaik Choon, 24, had gone to the nearby park on a motorcycle on Saturday.
They parked, then proceeded for their jog at about 5pm.
Before long, Gaik Choon fell behind as Miss Chee was very athletic and could run much faster.
Unable to catch up, Gaik Choon jogged slowly and lost sight of her sister.
At the end of the jog, Gaik Choon could not find Ms Chee.
She returned home, thinking her sister might have gone ahead of her.
Baffled to find that her sister was not home yet, Gaik Choon returned to the park and retraced their steps.
To her horror, she found her sister's track shoe by the side of the road. There were bloodstains on the ground nearby.
Gaik Choon rushed home and told her mother, Madam Lim Kim Nai, 47, of her terrible find. They made a police report.
A search party of 40 officers combed the area from 7pm till 12.30am the next day, but there was no trace of Miss Chee.
Miss Chee's body was found near this country club. It was 1.5km from her Sungai Petani house.
It was only at about 2.30am that a motorist reported finding her body.
Miss Chee had head wounds and her throat had been slit. Lying face up, she wore only a T-shirt and black brassiere.
An oily fluid was found on her private parts, reported Guang Ming Daily, which also reported that she appeared to have been sodomised.
It is not yet clear if the fluid is semen or some other lubricant, the Chinese paper reported. A sample has been sent to a lab for tests.
The police believe that Miss Chee had been abducted by several men in a black Naza Ria MPV.
Gaik Choon said she saw the MPV drive past her while she jogged. Shortly after that, she said, she saw it speeding back.
Miss Chee's devastated parents couldn't believe what had happened.
When Madam Lim was called to identity the body, she initially thought that it was not her daughter, reported China Press.
Miss Chee had left the house in a pale yellow T-shirt and the one on the body was red. It was only a while later that she realised the shirt was soaked in blood.
'How could anyone do this?' she cried.
Miss Chee's father, Mr Chee Kam Sau, 48, was outraged.
'They've already raped her, why must they kill her too?' he asked.
'They should have just let her go.'
He said Miss Chee, who works in a factory as a marketing executive, loved sports and held a black belt in taekwondo.
She was apparently about to be sent to Germany by her company for work next week and was in high spirits.
Miss Chee, the third of six children, was the prettiest in her family, said relatives.
Her boyfriend of three years, Mr Luo Zhenqing, 25, said she was an easy-going girl and they never had an argument.
The two met at the Universiti Utara Malaysia, where both were on the college basketball team.
The police are investigating the case as rape and murder.

They preyed on female joggers
THE rape and murder of a jogger which shocked many Singaporeans has been that of oil company executive Linda Chua on 6 Feb 2000.
She was jogging at the Bukit Batok Nature Park around 10am when she was attacked. A passer-by heard her cries for help and called for an ambulance. She was found in a 10-m ravine, with a bloodied nose and mouth, and her clothes were next to her. She died a week after the attack.
On 30 Jun 2003, another woman jogger was attacked at MacRitchie Reservoir. The 23-year-old woman was found naked apart from her jogging shoes. She had bruises on her face but survived.
In both cases the attackers could not be caught.
In Malaysia, on 26 Mar 2001, Malaysian girl was raped and murdered while jogging. Ms Amanra Jakaria, 19, of Sandakan, Sabah, was raped and murdered while jogging in a park.
In August 1991, a woman lawyer jogging in New York's Central Park was raped just 200m from where another woman runner was raped, beaten and left for dead by youths in 1989 in an incident that outraged New Yorkers.
