This may sound stupid, but what are the signs of a failing fuel pump? Won't start or loss of power, the one on mine was replaced shortly before I bought it, so hopefully it won't be for a while, but it'd be nice to know the symtoms.

You can say that, You can 'feel' that the fuel was not going in smoothly when you throttle, this will be very obvious when your fuel level is below half tank.

Don There'll be no symptoms of the pump failing. When it comes you'll get the feeling of no fuel going into the carbs and subsequently engine just died. What I did was clutch in and let the bike cruise to the side of the road and wait for a while. When it's cooled down I just pull the choke and start the bike. Then of to the nearest shop to have the pump replaced.

This happens to one of my friends and he heard very loud sucking sound.

Bro, how a loud sucking sound is like? When stopping at the traffic light you can hear the toot toot sound louder than the engine. The sound came due to the fuel pump miraculously revived. Somehow when I disconnected the tubes and somehow forgot to disconnect the power supply, next thing at the traffic light he said he heard some funny sound. So we stopped at the next petrol station and check. When I turn on the engine I heard the toot toot sound louder than the engine sound.

Hi brotherz out there, I'm relatively new to this forum. Just need to ask some advice from the gurus out there whether do I need to change the fuel pump on my bike. It's on the OEM one currently and I've just own it for a year and a half since bought the bike new back then. Reason for asking cos me goin for long ride. Dun want it to ruin the ride. Should I change?? If yes, OEM or Mitsubishi?? Thanks!!!

No exact lifespan for fuel pump.Better bring a spare one along.Don't matter OEM,OBS,OBM or wateva fu*k O.A fuel pump is a fuel pump as long as you get the correct rating and flow rate.
The difference between OEM and aftermarket is just packaging. For this case some modification has to be made as the mounting for the Mitsubishi ones are meant to be mounted on cars and that's about the only difference.
