the LC4 640 is a very extreme bike. without a doubt its damn hard core and damn macho if these things matter to you. My fren had one a few years back and i tried it a few times.
Now, as you all know i am not an aggresive rider. i am light on the throttle, clutch and even brakes (unless e-brake) when i first time tried out the 640, under my normal application of throttle and clutch release, already i skidded the rear wheel just on moving off.... too much power and that time i was riding GS so not as if i applied throttle like a TZR125. but then again, thats just me.
Ok then i also tried it another time in malaysia one of those road that must corner here corner there one.... it felt kinda weird cornering this bike maybe because tall riding position (spring did not really compress with me on board the bike) and low handle bar. probably something to get used to but def different from GS or Transalp.
that old model (blue and orange) my fren had also it has 'common' problems like clutch cable broke twice within few months time and also some time later maybe a year or so the digital meter gave up. not to mention that my fren hardly rode the bike much
i think for the type of riding we do, mostly good roads and even up till cambodia standard roads, many other bikes give greater value for $$, basically all we need are bikes with long travel to soak up bumps etc and can do 1000 km or highway with reasonable speed.
but go for it if you have spare hobby money to spend. after all, spending $$ is one of the ways to justify why we have to work so hard. I'd get one too just for the looks, to try it out and the capability of the bike which i am sadly unable to utilise.

When a person spends more time riding & DIY their bikes, looks of the bike becomes less important than the feel of it. Everybody can look at your bike but you're the one who rides it, so who's there to share your suffering if the bike is uncomfortable or unreliable?
I must agree the 640 Adv looks the shit, far so than the 950 Adv in my opinion, but I also wished it has a Japanese engine instead. then again maybe the instruments & idiot lights too, also wished the OEM parts are cheap as Honda's....then again, might as well buy a Japanese bike altogether!
I'm saying this as a person who can't afford to have a collection of bikes in my garage.
en wee>> i guess the reason you felt funny while cornering with the 640 Adv is that the handle bar is positioned really low, & probably the tyres are enduro type & well worn on tarmac(squarish).
BTW, Cambodia roads are getting so good nowadays, there's regular tour coaches plying from BKK to SR & PP. You can hardly need to leave the black top all the way from Poipet to PP if you use the route south of tonle sap. You can ride off from PP early morning with any big bike & have high tea at BKK same day.

To me, the main consent is that will it burn another big hole in my pocket? Worried!! Still eyeing on the KTM 640, KTM 950 or 990 would be great but then.... $$$$

Adventure 950 honestly,if you got the dough to burn.....but then again, get a cheaper and more reliable bike and spent the xtra dough to finance trips.Bikes,no matter how expensive,is still affordable thanks to people like Hitachi credit and motor shops.Experiencing the sights and sounds of riding is priceless if you ask me.I may not be rich but my dream is to see the world before I die...hehe...so far covered quite a bit so if I die now, maybe 1 eye will remain open.
